How should you explain job hopping?

Often when a resume lists numerous jobs within a short period of time it could be due to temporary or contract positions. When this is the case, it should be noted as such on the resume. Other reasons to explain multiple positions could be company relocation, company closing, downsizing or elimination of positions. Each case should also be noted on the resume. However, frequent layoffs or frequent elimination of positions may indicate that you were not among the most valued employees. If there are frequent jobs without any rational explanation, it could be very problematic.
