What to Do When the Posting Asks for 10 Years and You Have 7.

Years in a posting are often a wish, not a wall. Hiring teams use round numbers to filter volume. If you have seven strong years and the work matches, you can still compete if the page shows depth instead of a missing birthday.

Do not invent time. Reweight the proof.

• Lead with the closest work, even if the title was one level down.
• Show scope: team size, budget, region, systems, volume.
• Name the tools and methods the ten year candidates will also name.
• Use the summary to say the level you operate at, not the years you have collected.

If a requirement is truly mandatory, like a license, do not blur it. If it is “10 years of leadership,” seven years of running the same problems can be enough when the results are clear.
