How can you negotiate a higher salary during a job interview?

Every employer views a salary from a return on investment ( ROI)perspective. The goal is to negotiate a higher salary from a position of strength. This process begins with a powerful resume, one that sells your ROI potential. A powerful resume is like a recipe that must include all the right ingredients. In this case, the ingredients should include: skills, leadership style, creative decision making, thinking outside of the box, risk taking, quantitative and qualitative accomplishments etc etc. At Resumes Etc, we specialize in creating resumes that improve your bargaining position. The next step in the process is effective interviewing where your response to questions clearly demonstrates your ROI potential. I am often asked by clients to help them to answer a common question asked by a prospective employer. Why should we pay you more than your current employer? The answer is as follows "I am currently underpaid by my present employer. As a result, they will lose an employee that has been a major contributor to the achievement of the company's goals. The company that does hire me will be the beneficiary of my employer's miscalculation".
