Do Tariffs Work?

The Trump administration is attempting to leverage the worlds largest economy. The conventional wisdom is that countries like China and Mexico will not want to lose access, or have reduced access to American consumers because their products are priced higher. So who gets hurt by tariffs? Trading partners like China and Mexico the American consumer, and the economies of countries being hit by tariffs, along with the US economy. It becomes a game of chicken, and if the US wins, it can offset trade imbalances by $300B to $500B, which would result in an economic boom.
